WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORMAL WPC DECKING AND CO-EXTRUSION BOARDS?

Aug 29 , 2022

Normal deck boards are the first generation composite decking boards. Co-extrusion or capped deck boards are WPC second generation boards. They have been designed with a cover that is bonded at the core of the board during manufacturing. This core is a careful blend of wood and plastic co-extruded with a non-organic surface product to ensure the final deck board is very strong and resilient while maintaining the good and pleasant wood feel.

The co-extruded boards usually have a surface coating which is similar to the cover of a golf ball – it is that strong. The co-extrusion process involves the use of antioxidants, colorants, and UV inhibitors for capping of the core. Co-extrusion helps in the conservation of recycled materials as they ensure minimal cuts for capped boards. More so, boards that are co-extruded on all four sides are even better as they increase performance, durability, and the boards are also reversible.

Co-extrusion/capping of all four sides is ideal as it massively reduces waste. Co-extrusion of composite decking is the ideal path to a longer lasting deck that can be used for different purposes – celebrations, dinner parties, and family gatherings. Although co-extrusion boards are slightly more expensive than normal or uncapped boards, you can rest assured you would reap excellent returns from your investment.
